I know my blog is a mess right now. (broken posts, links, missing pages) But I wanted a place to get up a better quality image than Facebook will allow. So here it is. Lunar Eclipse meets Winter Solstice.

While this image is not nearly as good as I wanted it to be, it is the best I have. A memory from an event that I will never witness again. This eclipse/solstice combination has only happened one other time in recorded history, going back to year 1. That was in 1638. Oddly enough, it seems that the next one will come much sooner. It is scheduled for 2094. I was so close to not even seeing this eclipse that night. I was already in bed and was checking facebook and twitter before I dosed off. I saw a few posts from people saying how awesome the eclipse was. So I decided that I would drag my self out of bed to catch a glimpse. I had no intention of taking pictures that night, I just wanted to look at the moon, so I could say that I saw it. But as soon as I looked up into the frigid alberta sky I knew I needed a picture. So I went back inside, grabbed my camera and tripod, suited up and went back out. And looking back I am glad that I did.

Another whole month has come and gone since I last posted here. My bad. Its not exactly the start I was hoping for in 2011. But since this is my first post of the year I guess I will write some about whats going on. This year I hope to be posting here much more regularly and hopefully the quality of the content will increase as well. I hope you like the changes I have made around here. I got a new look for the page going now and like the fresh feeling. The other thing that I want to do this year is to start writing more. Try to make this a real photo blog rather than a picture book. There will still be lots of pictures though, hopefully even more. But with each photo I want to tell a story and develop my writing. I guess all this sure sounds like a new years resolution, but nope. Its January 26. The year is almost 1/12th over. So here’s to the last 11/12th’s of 2011, my it be full of happiness and fulfilled goals.

So once again it has been a while since I have posted any pictures. This one is from a few weeks ago when we drove up to the windmills. It was a fun trip, but at the top it was super cold and windy. Those windmills are absolutely massive, it is hard to know how big they are without actually being there. You can get an idea of the scale by looking at how small my friends are at the base of the windmill. The most surprising part of being up close to these magnificent machines is the sound. The whooshing of the wind on the propellers was really cool. Enjoy!

Last weekend Landon and I drove up Pikes Peak to take some pictures. While we misjudged the amount of daylight left, with the help of a tripod I managed to grab this shot of a fence at the top looking out over the valley with the city lights far out of focus.

Last night on my way home from Kayleigh’s house as I drove past the Lacombe airport I spotted an owl landing on this sign right along the road. Luckily I had my camera with me so I pulled over and quickly changed lenses. It was sooo dark. The only light was coming from a street light that was a little ways away. I cranked up the ISO as far as it would go (1600) and opened the lens up all the way (2.8). Even with that i was not getting anything for a shutter speed. My camera was warning me how dark it actually was by displaying LOW where the shutter speed should be. So i tried to make the best of the situation, but after a few shots it was clear that i would not be able to hand hold this shot. I wandered to the other side of the street and found a small power box thingy that ended up saving the day. With some help i was able to get a fairly sharp shot with a shutter speed of 1 full second. I hope the airport does not mind Mr. Owl doing a little trespassing.

This is a multiple exposure shot that I did for a class. It is made up of about seven different shots, layered on each other with varying opacities. To tell you the truth I am not a huge fan of this style of photography, but I thought I would share it anyway. Maybe it will inspire one of you to try it out.

International Lovin! Thanks to the cool people at woopra.com , I am able to see stats on the people that visit this page. Today I received my first hits from outside of North America, as you can see there where two visitors from the UK.
